Why Law Firms Hire the Securis Data Destruction Franchise

Legal documents and related data are highly sensitive, and secure destruction provides verifiable peace of mind for attorneys

In old spy thrillers, someone’s always feeding documents into a shredder to keep the bad guys from discovering top-secret plans. IT data destruction, like that performed by Securis, is a little more complicated.

Secure IT data destruction is the main business at Securis’ franchise locations, as well as its central processing centers.

IT data destruction is all Securis does. That’s why government agencies at municipal, state and federal levels, as well as physicians’ offices, hospitals and law firms rely on Securis to safely, securely and permanently destroy hard drives and other data storage equipment so that all that information is gone forever.

“Law firms have a lot of confidential data, much of which has to be kept for months and even years. But when it is time for it to be removed, they need to know that it’s been safely and securely destroyed,” says Michael Stegeman, who heads up franchise development for Securis. “They want to be able to show the client, and sometimes the courts, that the data has been permanently eradicated. We provide that service.”

Verifiable chain of custody

When Securis takes possession of old computers, laptops, flash drives or any other digital storage device, it provides a bar-coded tracking number that allows the client to follow the unit from pickup to shredding. Often, the IT data destruction is done on-site, and when it’s over, Securis will issue a certificate to back up the process.

“We don’t just take their drives away and park them in a warehouse somewhere until we have enough items to shred,” Michael says. “We also don’t ship anything hazardous overseas for recycling. When we pick it up, the customer knows exactly where everything is until it’s in tiny pieces in our truck or our main facility.”

Certified professionals in charge

When a Securis shredder is finished with a client’s storage devices, there’s no chance of resurrecting the data.

Every Securis professional who handles data has had a background check as required by the National Association for Information Destruction, something the competition can’t claim. This means that our carefully designed system, and the people who run it, have been vetted and cleared for processing and destroying highly sensitive data, and then issuing a certificate backed by a nationally known IT data destruction entity.

“It’s very important for law firms to make sure they’ve gotten rid of their data in an environmentally sensitive, secure and ethical manner,” Michael says. “On-site or offsite, Securis guarantees that. We even allow their IT director, security officer or whomever they designate to be with the equipment during the process, so they actually see the data destruction. That kind of transparency means a great deal to our clients, and we are happy and proud to offer them that opportunity.”
